From the Isles of Waiting (2023)

11. Georgia Plains

__From the Isles of Waiting (Cover).png

It wasn’t so long ago I carried my wooden drums

Down to the city to see what I couldn’t get for ‘em

I was riding out in search of companions

I was riding out for the Georgia plains

Well you know my friends they all fell through

My plans broke down, too stifled to come on through

And there was no reason left for me to stay

Figured I’d try my luck way down in the Georgia plains

Now I’m rolling rolling down

With that golden smoke all wrapped up in my head

And I’m holding holding on

The words taught me when I was young I’ll carry to my bed

Made it up to Kansas playing for pennies and a boozed up crowd

But the going was tough, not a buck to keep my worries down

The sky was so much drier here than the hills where I once played

So I set off past the canyons to set my sights on the Georgia plains

Found myself broke down somewhere on a lone highway

Got talking to a man sold his revolution for a weekend pay

I asked him where I’m going, said where nobody’s ever stayed

And I hitched my heart and my engine for the Georgia plains

Now I’m rolling rolling down

Don’t even know if I can make it down this way

And I’m holding holding on

The words taught me when I was young down the Georgia plains
